SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – A high-speed pursuit around 4 p.m. on Wednesday prompted an emergency alert to residents throughout Santa Barbara County, rather than the surrounding area.
Sheriff’s spokesperson Kelly Hoover said the Sheriff’s office is looking into the mistake and wants to apologize for any inconvenience. But she made it clear hey were looking for someone at the time who was possibly armed and dangerous near schools.
The alert urged residents to “shelter in place.” An “All Clear” followed when a Goleta-based motorcycle deputy arrested Michael McCann, 46 of Montecito. McCann had abandoned his SUV after driving into a dead end in the upper parking lot of Hope Elementary School. Officers said he jumped out of the car and ran into a field behind the school and through a residential area before he was caught.
