With a hiss of compressed air, a canister shot out of a launcher mounted behind the front grill of a Marshall Police Department cruiser and stuck to the rear door of a silver minivan with a dull thump.
From a distance, the soda can-sized tube appeared to be just a plastic container with a wad of clear adhesive attached to the end, but after David Respess, director of training for StarChase LLC, detached it from the minivan, he revealed a tangle of red and green wires under the sticky substance.
Respess and another employee of StarChase demoed the pursuit management technology for members of the Marshall and Waskom police departments on Tuesday at Marshall Business Park.
“If I had one pursuit all year – and it could cost someone their life, cost the officer’s life, cause thousands of dollars in damage – if I could just have this system and need it one time, that it eliminates (all of) that, that’s a win-win situation for everyone.”
