DECATUR — Police say a 13-year-old boy laughed as officers attempted to arrest him for stealing his mother’s van, striking two vehicles and fleeing, according to Sgt. Chris Copeland.
Decatur police were able to arrest the boy Monday afternoon at Eldorado Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Copeland said.
The boy’s mother told police she left for work at 6:30 a.m., and believed her son stole the keys to the van before her departure, Copeland said. She told officers she spotted a van that looked similar to her own, and it turned out to be her van and her teenage son driving. He said the mother told her son to go home or she would call the police, and her son laughed at her and drove away.
