An Oakland police officer has been fired and several have been suspended for engaging in a high-speed vehicle chase that left one person seriously injured, according to a report this week from the independent monitor overseeing reforms in the Oakland Police Department.
The employees were found to have violated the department’s policy barring high-speed pursuits of people considered nonviolent.
The Police Department has said little about the incident, and much of what has been made public has come from Robert Warshaw, the independent monitor assigned by a federal court to oversee the agency.
