WASHINGTON (WUSA9) — The numbers are staggering. About 12,000 people have died during police chases since 1982.
Across the country and here in the D.C. area, high-speed police chases are all too frequent — and deadly. An average of about 329 people are killed each year in these chases. And about 139 police officers have died in the last 30 years — including Prince George’s Officer Adrian Morris. Tens of thousands more people are injured.
“The tragedy that people don’t understand is that every third day, someone like you, me, or your parents or children are killed,” said Trevor Fischbach, founder and president of a small Virginia Beach-based business named StarChase.
