The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office has a new tool to use when pursuing a fleeing a vehicle – a tool that is expected to increase the probability of catching the suspect and decrease the risk of a serious crash.
On Thursday, the Sheriff’s Office unveiled the new technology by StarChase that is installed on several of the department’s patrol cars and was purchased using federal grant money.
The StarChase system is being used by agencies in about 25 states. Currently, only two police agencies in Georgia use the system and the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office is the first sheriff’s office in Georgia to use this GPS tracking system.
“I felt this device would be a benefit to us for the safety of our citizens and deputies,” he said. “This is a way of tracking suspects to get them off our streets.”
