READINGTON TWP. — You can run, but you won’t be able to hide from local police. Using a compressed-air launcher mounted in a police car grille, township officers can now shoot a GPS tag at a fleeing vehicle and track its movements in stealth.
The technology allows law-enforcement officers to avoid dangerous pursuits. Officers say it’s like having a “virtual helicopter.”
Unit maker StarChase calls the economic impact of pursuits “staggering, with hundreds of millions paid out in the U.S. annually due to insurance payouts, medical bills, workers’ compensation and lost wages.”
